Students in Special Education (Age 14 - 21)

The Center for Independent Living of South Jersey has a program to show you how to speak up and be heard by your parents, teachers and other students at school.  It is a self-advocacy training program. Self-advocacy means being able to speak up for yourself in a way that makes people aware that you are a person with feelings, ideas, wishes and dreams about your life today and your life in the future.

The Center has a wealth of knowledge about community resources.

Parents may also benefit from the support of other parents as well as the opportunity to consult with the project staff as they assist their students transition from school to adult life.

Each student's participation in the project will enable him/her to take an active role in the transition process.  Each will have opportunities to get individualized help and guidance in coping with any problems on their way to learn how to advocate for themselves.

The self-advocacy skills that students will learn from the project are valuable skills they will need for the rest of their life.
